(OVERVIEW)
Ground is a free personal budget tracker for solo creatives and freelancers. A calm, editorial place to keep track of money across your projects, without spreadsheets, without guilt, and without a finance dashboard that feels nothing like you.
(THE CHALLENGE)
Most creatives track their money in a notes app, or don't track it at all. Finance tools are cold, corporate, and built for accountants. We wanted something different. A quiet, beautiful place to log what's coming in and going out, organized around real creative work: by project, not by category.
(OUR APPROACH)
We designed Ground to feel like an open ledger book. A cream page tucked inside a chocolate brown cover, with numbers set in Cutive Mono and headings in Playfair Display. Each project gets its own stamp icon and currency, its own monthly pages to move through, and an overall budget with a visual gauge. No shadows, no gradients, no sharp corners. Just hairline dividers, flat fills, and dashed lines where buttons would normally shout. The whole app is free, from day one, with no locked features or entry caps.
(RESULTS & IMPACT)
Ground launched fully free to the public and quickly found its audience among freelancers, designers, and small studios who wanted something calmer than a spreadsheet. It became one of The DeepLayer's clearest examples of the studio's belief: good tools can feel like paper, and money can be tracked without shame.
